Celebrating Spring and Summer in Memphis

With spring rapidly approaching, Memphis is an electrifying and exciting place to be! After a long winter, it has never felt better to finally spend a little time outside, bathing in the sunshine. Memphians should take advantage of this change in weather by attending the many popular events at numerous venues in the area. These events occur annually and succeed in bringing people together, allowing all Memphians to enjoy time with friends and family while also appreciating quality entertainment. Some of these events include festivals and concerts like the Midtown Opera Festival from April 9th-19th, the Beale St. Music Festival from May 1st-3rd, and upcoming summer concerts at the Levitt Shell. The opening game for the Redbirds at AutoZone Park on April 9th is also popular among baseball fans. Investing your money such events this spring is a sure way to have unforgettable fun in Memphis as the ice melts and the warm weather arrives.

Opera Memphis is proud to announce their third Midtown Opera Festival this April at Playhouse on the Square. It will feature three chamber operas and other happenings, all taking place in the heart of Memphis. The operas include Francis Poulenc’s Mamelles de Tirésias, Tom Cipullo’s Glory Denied, and Henry Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas. Tickets start at $35. Another event this April is the opening game for the Redbirds. With recent renovations to AutoZone Park, which is located in downtown Memphis, the Redbirds are excited for their fans to come support and check out the new renovations. Tickets start as low as $6!

The Beale St. Music Festival, a part of Memphis in May, is a definite for many music enthusiasts. Famous artists perform near Beale Street in a 25-acre park along the Mississippi River. Artists include a mixture of contemporary rock, blues, soul, and pop talent. Lenny Kravitz, Ed Sheeran, The Avett Brothers, Ryan Adams, and many more are all performing at the festival this year. Three-day festival passes are only $95, and even if you do not know a lot of the bands performing, the atmosphere of the festival is exciting and worth the visit. The bands put on fabulous shows that will no doubt expand musical interests for all people, newbies and fans alike. Another event that is part of Memphis in May is The World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest going on May 14th-16th. Daily tickets are only $10 for this unique opportunity to sample the famous Memphis BBQ. Finally, Memphis in May concludes with the AutoZone Sunset Symphony on May 23rd. Enjoy this spring in Memphis by attending as many events as you can- you won’t regret it.

Be sure to mark your calendars as summertime is just around the corner. The Levitt Shell is another great venue to bring friends and family for concerts. Some of the upcoming performers include Ester Rada, Katie Herzig, Kopecky Family Band, The Dunwells, among the many more that will perform there throughout the summer. The best part about these concerts is that they’re all free! Bring your blankets and lawn chairs to settle down for a summer picnic and a free show. Take advantage of the beautiful warm weather this spring and summer by attending any of these exciting events; not only are they a great way to pass the time, but they are a great way to get to be a part of the Memphis community.
