lsBeing a college student in Memphis, of the limited-income and self-supporting sort, I am very familiar with the thrift stores and consignment shops that are littered around Memphis. Very conveniently down the road from my school, they are near and dear to my heart as the quick fix for themed-party attire or a DIY pair of vintage Levi’s shorts. So when I happened upon Joseph, it was almost a refreshing reminder that the glitz and glam of life does still exist, albeit in a beautiful pair of Louboutin’s or Manolo’s.

The women’s store looks like you plucked part of the shoe, handbag, jewelry, cosmetic, and select apparel departments from Saks, and combined them into one miniature luxury department store. The store carries a few contemporary brands, like Theory and Vince, but an abundance of fashion designers such as Chanel, Jimmy Choo, Prada, and Valentino – to name only four from a list of over thirty.

However, in addition to their permanent designers they host a myriad of trunk shows and events, with the option to special order from the designers. Most recently was their Frye Boots Trunk Show (April 25th and 26th), introducing some western tones to their store for the weekend. Not surprisingly, the Frye display was surrounded by eager women waiting to try on a pair of boots, famous for bringing a more modern and practical take on the classic cowboy boot.

Next on their calendar are a Peter Cohen Apparel Trunk show (May 1st and 2nd), and Natura Biss (May 15th-17th) and Yves Saint Laurent (May 17th) Cosmetics Events. To see their full lists of upcoming events and designers, visit their website: http://www.josephstores.com.
